From Photo to Cover

This was my very first experience with a custom photo shoot--usually I tend to just go with premade covers so I'm not really sure if this is the "norm" but I thought I'd share a little bit about the process. :) But first, just for fun! Here are some behind the scenes photos: Now, before I continue, I should probably introduce the players: The Authors: Me and Komal of course The Models: My sister Karlie and Komal's boyfriend Chase ( Though now he is her fiance! I've actually known Chase since he was like 12. His sister and I were on the same cheerleading squad and I remember Chase showing off his gymnastics skills in the basement for us while we were decorating pillows and making snacks for the MHS Wrestling team) The Photographer: Tera Lankard The Cover Designer: Eden Crane We woke up pretty early the morning of the day Komal and I left for Indie Mash-up (our first author convention! It was a big weekend for us all around). I

Dive into The Revealed Click HERE to watch I originally from Oklahoma, but have lived several places in my life. I began writing in 2009 when I had a dream about a little girl traveling with her grandmother. In essence that is how Jessie Discovers Christmas was born. I then ventured out into YA and adult romance. I hold a bachelors degre

Cover Reveal: We Were Us by Heather Diemer

When Jenna returns to the small town she was forced to leave over a year ago after her drug dealing mother was found in bed with the mayor, she wasn’t sure what to expect. She is perfectly content waiting out the summer alone until she can return to college in the fall. What she doesn’t expect was to rekindle her relationship with Josh. Josh doesn’t judge her like everyone else does and never did. He gets her. When he shows up at her door every night just to see her, Jenna opens up to him like she’d never been able to before. And the more time she spends with him, the more she realizes she is falling for him. When someone in town spots the two of them together, rumors fly and her already uncomfortable existence in the town takes a turn for the worse. Jenna realizes she’ll never belong here and decides to leave and never look back. Josh convinces her to stay because there is something that she doesn’t know--something that could change everything.

Sneak peek of page 7 of LIKE THE DAWN (obviously unedited and subject to change) :) “Lord Blaise,” I greet him. “How nice to see you again.” I don't mean it. At all. The guy is a total jerk and my last encounter with him was hardly pleasant but everyone is watching and expecting me to be friendly. Since I kind of need them all to like me, the least I can do is suck it up and plaster a fake smile on my face. But I'm totally imagining kicking the dude in his balls. “Princess Mia.” He kisses my hand as he peers up at me from beneath his impossibly long lashes. Does he wear mascara? Quite frankly, I wouldn't put it pass him. “You look lovely as always.” “Thanks.” “May I sit next to you while we dine?” While we dine? Dude, is this guy eighty? Then I laugh to myself because honestly, he's probably a lot older than that. I do believe Aunt Isobel said he was 109. So technically he's younger than Grey. I freeze when I hear his familiar voice in my mind

Cover reveal: Unfamiliar

Photography by Tera Lankard Cover Design by Eden Crane Design Hailey Peters has always held onto the familiar. From the way she wears her hair, to dating her childhood friend-turned high school sweetheart--she sticks with what she knows, and she’s convinced herself that this is what makes her happy. Chase Lancaster doesn’t play by the rules. He’s a classically trained pianist who rocks out in a punk rock band every weekend, and isn’t afraid of taking chances. When they are assigned to co-write a song for their college music class, Hailey can’t imagine anyone she has anything less in common with than Chase. She is a sweater-wearing, neat freak, and he is disheveled and rough around the edges. As they spend time together, they both find a place in each other’s lives—a place where they challenge each other to be different and to embrace the unfamiliar.   Hailey never planned for a Chase Lancaster in her life, and she is about to find out that this walking contradiction wil

Update on Unfamiliar!

Komal Kant and I are still working on Unfamiliar, I know we haven't talked much about it lately but rest assured, we are working on it! I'd say we are just about half way through writing the first draft. We have a strong outline so it's been easy writing it so far--just finding the time between the holidays and illness has been tough! My friend Tera Lankard took the photo for our cover and Eden Crane has designed a beautiful cover for us. We got to see it earlier today! We can't wait to show you! I'm not sure when we will reveal it but I imagine pretty soon. Komal and I weren't even going to mention Unfamiliar until this fall and I'm pretty sure we made the announcement in July soooo obviously we can't keep a secret! LOL In the mean time, I'm going to start writing my next chapter and then get some more work done on Like the Dawn (Lark #3). I wanted to get a lot done this weekend since my husband was gone and I tend to be pretty productive when

5 Things About Me

1. I was the captain of my high school cheerleading squad AND a huge nerd. I definitely wasn't one of the "cool" kids but I was a pretty good cheerleader (even was voted "Most School Spirit" and "Most likely to be a Dallas Cowboy Cheerleader" for Senior Choice Awards LOL). But instead of spending my weekends getting invited to parties and hanging out with the popular kids like one would expect of a cheerleader--I was either working at the movie theater or reading a book. Sound familiar? ;) I also have ridiculously curly hair. 2. For an entire decade I read the entire Harry Potter series on a continuous loop so when I say I've read each of those books at least 100 times--I'm not exaggerating. I'm obsessed. I even have my own wand! When a UK reviewer compared my books to the Harry Potter series on Amazon, it totally made my year! Best compliment EVER. 3. My husband owns more shoes than I do. True story. I prefer to be barefoot. 4.

Like the Dawn (Lark #3) Cover Reveal

I'm so excited to share this cover with you! Seriously it is my absolute most favorite cover ever. I love it so flippin' much! Mia Carrington has finally done the very thing she was destined to do all along—she's broken the curse on the Dark Elves. In order to make up for her mistake, Mia has chosen to make the ultimate sacrifice: her mortal life. The Dark Elves are now wreaking havoc on the mortal world while the Light Elves are trying to gain alliances. It seems now that Dugan has come into full power, nobody is brave enough to help defeat him, and the kingdom of Álfheimr cannot do it alone. It's up to Mia to try to persuade the other kingdoms, Raumelfr and Gautelfr, to join in their fight. Only they seem more concerned with frivolous matters—like who will rule beside Mia when she becomes Queen. Now that she has taken her place as King Alberico's rightful heir, there is no shortage of suitors seeking her hand. But her heart already belongs t

NEW cover for LARK!

In November I had to get a new cover for In the Shadows due to circumstances beyond my control and I ended up loving it more than the original anyway (and I really loved the original!). Eden Crane agreed to also design Like the Dawn for me when the time came. Then I got to thinking, it seemed silly to use the same model for only two of the three covers. So I asked her if we could redo Lark as well. She actually designed the original Lark cover anyway so honestly, it worked out perfect. I'm excited that they are all going to REALLY "match" now! So here is the brand new cover of Lark: And here is it side by side with the sequel In the Shadows: And as you can probably guess from the picture, I will be showing you the third and final cover very soon! Just wait until you see it! It's my absolute favorite of the three and I think they all look great side by side! Now that I've seen the cover for Like the Dawn, I'm probably going to get

Blog Tour: walker by Michelle Flick

I'm so excited that I'm the first stop on the WALKER Blog Tour! I love this book--and the cover is gorgeous: Kate isn’t thrilled to be moving to the middle of nowhere. She's already lost her parents, now she's leaving the only place she's ever known as home. She’s not there long when she realizes her dreams aren’t her own and that she has the ability to walk through other people's dreams. Not only that, but she might have found her dream guy--literally. He's in her dreams. Just when she starts to get the hang of dream walking, strange murders in her new town start to occur. Girls are being killed as they sleep with no evidence, no suspects and no clear motive behind the deaths. It doesn’t take Kate very long to realize that the girls aren’t just being killed as they sleep—they’re being killed in their sleep. Kate must figure out how to find the killer in the real world and keep the ones she loves safe while they sleep.
